The family will receive visitors from 6-8 PM Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Rice Funeral Service. Cheryl passed away unexpectedly Thursday, July 6, 2017 in Claremore at the age of 65.
Born March 22, 1952 in McAlester, Cheryl was the daughter of Ralph Willard Rock and Wilma Lois (LaRue) Rock. She and her family moved to Claremore when she was four years old and shortly after, her family opened the Napa Auto Parts store. Cheryl met several lifelong friends while attending school in Claremore where she graduated with the Class of 1970.
Following high school, Cheryl attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah where she met the love of her life, Bob Bradford. The couple dated only six months and married March 25, 1972. Bob proposed to her on Sparrow Hawk Mountain near the Illinois River. She was very involved with Chi Alpha, an Assemblies of God college organization. Cheryl earned her bachelor’s degree in Special Education and Early Childhood Education and spent her entire career devoted to serving children.
Bob pursued a career in the oil and gas industry, which relocated them to Michigan where Cheryl loved the scenery. She always dreamed about building the perfect little house there. While in Michigan, Cheryl taught preschool for fifteen years. Family was always a top priority to Cheryl. She and Bob fostered twenty-two children before God provided two children of their own to adopt, at which point Cheryl stopped working for five years. Cheryl and Bob settled in Inola, Oklahoma where they raised their family. Cheryl taught at Inola Public Schools from 1996 until her retirement in 2013.
She was known for her distinctive chuckle, always laughing and having fun. She enjoyed everything about life and would regularly end her prayers saying, “Lord let us have fun.” Cheryl was a terrific cook, and cinnamon rolls and monkey bread were her specialties. She loved all kinds of crafts and was quite the expert at sewing and cross stitching. Cheryl even loved to mow and she spent countless hours working in her yard. She loved spending time with her friends, cooking, reading, sewing, attending flea markets and making regular trips to the Amish Cheese House. Cheryl loved Jesus with all of her heart and was a great prayer warrior. She was devoted to her small groups at church and served at the Joseph House Food Pantry in Coweta.
Cheryl is survived by her husband Bob of Inola; her children: Michael Bradford and wife Angeline of San Antonio, Texas, and Katie Bradford of Miami, Oklahoma; her three brothers: Larry Rock and wife Rhonda of Claremore, David Rock and wife Kathey of Claremore, and Tony Rock of Tulsa; mother-in-law Jean Bradford Wood of Collinsville, sister-in-laws: Betty Jean Allen and husband Willard of Skiatook, and Angelita Vaughn of Broken Arrow; numerous nieces and nephews; her loving family dog Oreo; and her two grand-puppies: Kona and Jasmine.
