A memorial service honoring and remembering the life of Cathy Joyce Shoemaker will be held 3:00 PM, Saturday, July 1, 2017 at the Chapel of the Garden at Rice Funeral Service. Cathy passed away June 24, 2017 in Claremore. She was 66.
Born June 19, 1951 in Los Angeles County, California to parents: William Dennis Hopkins and Virginia (Cox) Hopkins.
Cathy was a very caring person: the heart of her family. She was the “stay at home mom” for both her children and her nieces and nephews. She grew up in Burbank, California where she would frequently see celebrities. She moved to Oklahoma in the mid nineteen-nineties to be closer to her family and her father before he passed away. She was a bookworm and was known as the “family encyclopedia”, because she knew all the names of her family, how everyone was related and what was going on in their lives. After her children were grown, Cathy worked at Wal-Mart as a customer service manager and as a cashier at the Hard Rock Casino until she retired in 2005.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister: Karen Householder; and one nephew: Dominic Rocco.
She is survived by her two daughters: Anita Cowin and her husband Tommy of Claremore, Christie Chamberlin of Mountain Home, Arkansas; grandchildren: Chaz Nelson, William Chamberlin, Kristopher Chamberlin; one great-granddaughter: Marilyn Nelson; two sisters: Denise Hopkins of California, and Virginia Hopkins of Claremore; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
