Services to honor and remember the life of Cecil “Everett” Bowlin Jr. will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 30, 2017 at Faith Baptist Church. Everett passed away on Monday, June 26, 2017. He was 77.
Born in Claremore on September 26, 1939 to Cecil and Nanny (Spade) Bowlin. He was reared in Rose, Oklahoma and went to the Little Kansas school.
Everett lost his sight in a motorcycle accident at the age of 13 and at 16 began to attend the Oklahoma School for the Blind. While there he participated in the wrestling program, going on to wrestle in several tournaments. He played the guitar and sang in the Oklahoma School for the Blind band and later in life used those skills to be the director of music at various churches including Faith Baptist Church for many years. He was very involved in the church and he taught Sunday School for over 40 years. He was a prize winning woodcarver, walking sticks being his specialty. He was very proud to be a Cherokee
God was his favorite author: he loved reading the Bible, especially Genesis and Exodus. He also enjoyed reading westerns and mystery novels. He was a very generous man and was very involved in the Good Samaritan Ministry in Claremore.
Everett would want people to know that he wasn’t disabled. Despite having lost his sight, he wasn’t hindered from living a great life and from being able to give of himself to others.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Cecil and Nanny (Spade) Bowlin; one brother: Jim O’field, and one sister, Marie Kinzey.
Everett is survived by his two daughters: Margaret Morrison and her husband Steve of Claremore, and Shellie Bowlin of Claremore; one son, DuWayne Bowlin of Tulsa; two brothers: Johnny Bowlin of Bartlesville, OK, Kenneth Bowlin and his wife Joyce of Foyil; four grandchildren: Bryan and Lucas Morrison, and Dustin and Colin Bowlin; two great-grandchildren: Izaak and Kloe Bowlin; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
